کز عشق تو دیوانه گشتم
Come, for your love’s driven me mad by now
وگر شهری بدم ویرانه گشتم
Were I a town, I’d be a ruin by now
ز عشق تو ز خان و مان بریدم
In your love, I severed ties with home and friends
به درد عشق تو هم خانه گشتم
So I’ve been your love pain’s roommate hence
چنان کاهل بدم کان را نگویم
I used to be so immature, I can’t even say
چو دیدم روی تو مردانه گشتم
When I met you, I grew to the man I am today
چو خویش جان خود جان تو دیدم
I saw your soul the ways I saw my own
ز خویشان بهر تو بیگانه گشتم
For you, I broke away from everyone I’ve known
فسانه ی عاشقان خواندم شب و روز
All the lover’s legends I sang day and night
کنون در عشق تو افسانه گشتم
See how I was turned to a legend myself by your love’s light
به جان جمله ی مستان که مستم
I swear on the life of all drunks that I am drunk (out of myself)
بگیر ای دلبر عیار دستم
Oh love, hold my hand for it leaves me exhilarated
به جان جمله جانبازان که جانم
I swear on the life of all life gamblers, that I AM LIFE.
به جان رستگارانش که رستم
I swear on the life of all liberated ones, that I became liberated.
عطاردوار دفترباره بودم
I was bookish, Mercury’s way.
زبردست ادیبان می نشستم
Highly respected among the literati.
چو دیدم لوح پیشانی ساقی
When I saw the luminous forehead of the cup-bearer,
شدم مست و قلمھا را شکستم
I became drunk and I broke all pens.
مرا گفتی بدر پرده دریدم
You told me to rip the veil; I ripped it!
مرا گفتی قدح بشکن شکستم
You told me to break the chalice (of worldly drinks); I broke it!
مرا گفتی ببر از جمله یاران
You told me to cut from all friends.
بکندم از همه دل در تو بستم
I detached my heart from all and I attached it to you.
